Hey everybody! I'm having such a blast playing for you every month at Joe's Pub, and the fourth concert in my residency is coming right up a week from today on Friday April 28th at 9:30 PM. There's barely any seats left, so go get your tickets before it's too late!
A few exciting things about this show... I'm featuring a very special guest, my dear friend Ato Blankson-Wood. You may have seen him blow the roof off the Public Theater in The Total Bent. He was one of my first friends in the city, and he remains one of the most extraordinary performers I've ever met. He'll be singing a song of mine I've never heard anyone else perform, and his rendition is breathtaking.
I'm also debuting a new song I co-wrote with my best friend, the phenomenal Kate Ferber. She'll be there to perform it with me. It's a pretty epic anthem, but I have to admit, we didn't write the lyrics to the chorus. Those we took from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's statement attempting to justify his silencing of Elizabeth Warren. The guy sure knows how to write a hook.
And my 'wall of fame' cover series continues, featuring work by the legendary artists whose portraits hang next to the Pub stage. This month, I'm paying homage to one of my heroines, Patti Smith, with a little help from Ato, Kate and my accordion.
In other news, I'm over the moon to be creating another musical Shakespeare adaptation for the Public Theater this summer for their incredible initiative, Public Works! I've been working hard on As You Like It, and can't wait to share it with you later this year. You can read more about the program and this summer's production here, and mark your calendars for Labor Day weekend!
Thank you to everyone who's been coming out to Joe's Pub so far. Your support means a great deal to me.
With love,
Shaina
P.S. Save the date for my next show: Friday May 19th, on sale now, featuring special guest, the comedic genius Rachel Bloom!
